Dinner at Poppy: "a thali for ripe tomatoes"
Another amazing dinner at one of my favorite Seattle restaurants, Poppy.
To start- a ordered a very unique martini- the "tomato season" (vodka, tomato water, dolin dry vermouth, cinnamon basil). Awesome- the tomato water was very nice! (picture 1/5)

Jerry Traunfeld was very nice and sent a free appetizer our way (dungeness crab rolls with herbs) to thank me for referring singer Jewel to the restaurant last month (she loved it, see her tweet here).
My main course was the "thali for ripe tomatoes", a large platter including the following dishes: (picture 2/5)
- Walla walla onion soup
- leek, tomato, taggia olive and savory salad
- minted melon and tomato salad
- qualicum scallop and pork belly and corn sauce
- copper river coho salmon with pea sprouts, shiso and fennel
- 4-spice fingerling potatoes with mint
- zucchini-basil gratin
- filet beans with tarragon and shallot rings
- cucumber kimchi
- nigella naan
The tastes and flavors were awesome as usual! My dinner was nicely complemented with the "thali wine flight": (picture 3/5)
- Paul Ginglinger ‘Pfersigberg Grand Cru’, Alsace, France, 2005
- Mark Ryan Winery 'Dissident White', Columbia Valley, 2008
- Elk Cove, Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley, 2007
I wasn't sure which wines to pair with which dishes, but I enjoyed all three (particularly the pinot noir).
We split a dessert thali with "black and blueberry shortcake with cinnamon basil ice cream" and "chocolate chip licorice ice cream"... mmm. (picture 4/5)
To finish, my favorite cocktail- "papi delicious" (horinitos plata, curacao, red bell pepper, lime, mint) ordered EXTRA SPICY! (picture 5/5)
